The growing dependence on fossil fuels is taking its toll on the food supply. At first it seemed that corn-based ethanol was the welcomed answer to rising gas prices. Now with government subsidies, rising prices and growing demand, farmers are being lured away from growing food crops and instead are growing fuel crops. The result is scarcity of edible corn and sky-rocketing prices for corn along with everything that has corn in it (which is just about every food product in existance). Mexico recently saw rioting in protest of the prohibitively high price of tortillas, a Mexican staple. What will we do when all the food is gone?
